'Miracle' telethon airs on WMAR this weekend

June 05, 1993

For the 10th year, WMAR-Channel 2 this weekend offers almost a full day of air time to the "Children's Miracle Network Telethon," which raises funds for children's hospitals.

"Telethon Is 10!" can be seen from 9 p.m. tomorrow to 6 p.m. Sunday, and the Johns Hopkins Children's Center is the beneficiary of local pledge calls. The center has gained about $10 million in donations from previous telethons.

Anchors Mary Beth Marsden and Stan Stovall serve as co-hosts of local portions of the telethon, with Lori Williamson, wife of Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Mark Williamson, acting as telethon chairwoman.

Two young Children's Center patients, Rowena Johnson, 14, and Brian Ballantine, 11, also serve as 1993 Telethon Ambassadors, and will appear during the telecast.

National portions of the show originate from Disney World and Disneyland, with hosts John Schneider and Marie Osmond. The telethon is partially funded by the Osmond Foundation.
