A student claiming to have had sex with Ronald Walter Price has notified Anne Arundel County's attorneys that she and her family plan to sue for up to $1 million.

The one-page notice filed last week is required to put the county on notice that a suit is about to be filed in Circuit Court, Deputy County Attorney David A. Plymyer said.

Mr. Price, a former social studies teacher at Northeast High School, is charged with sexual child abuse and unnatural and perverted sex practices for having relationships with three of his students over the past two years.

Mr. Price, whose resignation was announced Tuesday, has admitted having sex with as many as seven students. He later married two of them.

The former softball coach has said he is seeing a psychiatrist.

His attorneys said this week they may file an insanity plea and ask for a jury trial.

Harvey Wasserman, one of two lawyers representing the girl, said she is still a minor attending Northeast High. He said the relationship lasted two years, until she revealed it to a counselor in April.

"That led to the parents being apprised of the situation, and put the wheels in motion for what followed," Mr. Wasserman said.

He said the girl was 14 when the relationship began.

The family, he said, is not interested in discussing the case with the news media.

Mr. Plymyer said county and school officials anticipated the notice.

An unspecified amount was put into the county budget's contingency fund to cover any settlement.
