Truck injures bicyclist in Jessup

A 34-year-old Brandywine bicyclist was injured Tuesday afternoon when a truck knocked him off his Huffy Stalker at an intersection in Jessup, Howard County police said.

John McClain, of the 12100 block of Cherry Tree Crossing Road, was flown by state police helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was treated and released later that night.

Police said he was injured about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday while traveling north on Route 1 near Patuxent Range Road.

A Mack truck struck the cyclist while trying to pass him, police said.

Truck driver Jesse Andrew Thorne Jr., 48, of the 1700 block of Ridgely Road in Edgewater, was not injured. No charges have been filed, but police said they are continuing to investigate the accident.

*North Laurel: 9300 block of Madison Avenue: Someone tried to enter a window between 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday but was apparently scared away by a dog.

9500 block of Sylvan Still: A stolen 1987 Pontiac Grand Am was recovered on fire on Gorman Road near Interstate 95 Saturday. The owner didn't know the car was stolen until police called with the news.
