Amber Clutter and Nikki Robitaille completed a stellar 1993 season yesterday by placing third in the girls doubles at the state tennis tournament at Essex Community College.

The South Carroll duo defeated South Hagerstown's Tracy Koenig and Kathy McKinney, 6-2, 6-2, in the third-place consolation match.

In the semifinals, they lost, 7-5, 7-5, to Amanda Shaw and Nora

Humphrey of Montgomery County's Walt Whitman High.

"We were a lot more relaxed in the consolation round. We just tried to keep the ball in the court," said Clutter.

Yesterday, the District V champs downed Belinda Hayward and Staci Getz of Perry Hall, 6-2, 6-1, then came from behind to edge Cambridge's Laura Patterson and Julie

Foxwell, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the semis.

Westminster's Kristi Matthai and Laura Schoffner lost in the first round on Friday, 2-6, 3-6, to eventual champions Payton Goldman and Dori Feldman of Pikesville.

District II, consisting of Montgomery County schools, wrapped up the team championship with 27 points. District V (Carroll, Anne Arundel, Howard and Harford counties) had 17 points for second place, and District VIII (Eastern Shore) came in third with 15.
