North County band brings home trophies

Strike up the band!

The North County High School band has arrived home from the Music Fiesta-val in Toronto with plenty of trophies in hand.

The event attracted bands from 14 states.

The concert, jazz and marching bands all received first place in their divisions. Solo majorette Shannon Boyer also captured first place. The Flag Squad and Pom Squad won second-place awards.

The judges issued additional awards following a parade that was open to all bands. North County won "Best Overall Band." Drum majors N'Dinga Gaba and Kamahli Welch won judges' awards as did the percussion line and the flag and pom squads.

If you would like to see the marching band, they will be appearing inthe Glen Burnie Memorial Day Parade at 2 p.m. today. The parade begins at the Harundale Mall parking lot and proceeds up Crain Highway to the Glen Burnie Improvement

Association.

Belle Grove Elementary School news: End-of-the-year picnics will begin this week, starting with kindergarten on Tuesday, grade 1 and grade 1/2 split on Wednesday, grades 4 and 5 on Thursday and grades 2 and 3 on June 7.

* A volunteer luncheon will take place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Volunteers who received invitations should RSVP as soon as possible.

Brooklyn Park Elementary School news: The band, chorus, handbell choir and strings will present their spring concert at 7 p.m. Thursday in the cafeteria.

A portion of the program will belong to second-graders who will sing and sign the song "Heal the World." Parents, relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle Junior High School news: Don't forget to come out for the final Burger King Night from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at the fast-food restaurant on Nursery Road. A portion of the proceeds will be turned over to the school.

* Ninth-grade students will attend their Farewell Dance from 7:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. Friday at the school. Shirts with collars and ties are requested for the boys and dresses for the girls. Tickets are $5 per person and can be bought during lunch periods this week.

Get your tickets for the Spring Fling, which will take place Saturday from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m. at the Arundel Improvement Association hall, 705 Cross St.

Live music will be provided by M & M. Tickets are $10 per person. For tickets or more information, call 789-2192 or 789-6855.
