May 28, 1993

U.S. Naval Academy officials have honored the late Dottie Brouse, the secretary who served 14 academy commandants during her 25 years at the school.

Retired Adm. Leon Edney, academy commandant from June 1981 to January 1984, and the current commandant, Navy Capt. John B. Padgett III, dedicated the commandant's conference fTC room to Ms. Brouse and unveiled a plaque in her honor.

Admiral Edney called Ms. Brouse, who died in August, "an uplifting spirit," noting that everyone who came to see her walked away feeling better about themselves.

"A consummate and no-nonsense leader, she showed integrity and devotion to God, family and this institution," Admiral Edney said. "Loyalty to this institution was never displayed better than by Dottie Brouse."
