Fallston wins, gains semifinals Baseball roundup

Senior first basemen Rob Myers went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs as No. 12 Fallston defeated Bohemia Manor, 7-2, in the Class 1A, Region III title baseball game at Harford Community College yesterday.

The Cougars (20-2), the region's top seed and winners of 17 consecutive games, advanced to the state semifinals on Tuesday at Dundalk Community College or McCurdy Field in Frederick where they will meet Brunswick.

Brunswick beat Francis Scott Key, 5-1, yesterday. Fallston, which will be seeded No. 1, will be making its first state semifinal appearance.

Myers highlighted a three-run first inning for Fallston with a triple that scored Shane Dougherty (two runs scored) and Tim Deyesu, then he scored on a throwing error. Myers singled in Dougherty in the fifth inning for a 6-1 lead.

For the second straight game, a Fallston pitcher went the distance as senior right-hander Shawn Matthai pitched a complete game for the Cougars, allowing four hits while striking out six. Friday, senior left-hander Brandon Brockmeyer pitched a four-hitter in a 5-0 victory over Perryville in the regional semifinals.

* Wicomico 7, Edgewood 1: Wicomico erupted for six runs in the bottom of the sixth as it defeated visiting and No. 7 Edgewood (14-6) in the Class 2A, Region IV championship game.

Wade Greason doubled in Smokey Burgess in the top of the first inning for Edgewood's only run. Wicomico tied it in the third and it remained that way until the bottom of the sixth.

Wicomico, the No. 1 seed in the region, will play either at Dundalk CC or McCurdy Field on Tuesday.
