Even though the two teams never play during the regular season, Perry Hall's and Pikesville's tennis teams never fail to meet in the district and regional tournament.

This year was no different.

Perry Hall and Pikesville won two titles each in yesterday's final round of the Baltimore County District/Regional finals at Towson State.

Both the winners and runners-up in each division qualify for Friday's state tournament at Essex Community College. Pikesville is sending a tournament-high six entrants and Perry Hall is sending three.

Pikesville's Kelley Margolis defeated teammate Elyse Kaplan in the singles finals, 6-0, 6-2. Margolis, who went undefeated during the regular season, lost only four games in four matches.

The doubles team of Dori Feldman and Payton Goldman beat Perry Hall's Staci Getz and Belinda Hayward, 6-2, 6-0, for the girls title. Goldman, a three-time county singles champion, wanted to play doubles in her final season.

"I wanted a change and I wanted to end [my last year] doing something different," said Goldman, who finished fourth in the state tournament singles division last year.

Perry Hall dominated the other two doubles events, with Jennifer Godwin and Scott Lortz repeating as mixed doubles champions and Jason Olenick and Matt Banks winning the boys doubles title. Godwin and Lortz topped Pikesville's Kim Rosen and David Shane, 6-3, 6-2. Olenick and Banks beat Pikesville's Ryan Millan and Oleg Tartakovsky, 6-2, 6-1.

Loch Raven senior Roger Toung won the boys singles title, defeating Pikesville's Ryan Cole in the semifinals, 6-2, 7-5, and Darren Feldman in the final, 6-2, 6-3.
