Man steals woman's purse

Howard County police are searching for a man who stole a purse from a woman as she loaded groceries into her car outside Normandy Shopping Center, police said.

The 63-year-old victim wasn't physically injured but was emotionally shaken by the robbery, police said. The robbery occurred shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday as the woman put the groceries in her parked car at the shopping center, in the 8400 block of Baltimore National Pike, police said. A man approached her, grabbed her purse and ran toward Route 40, police said.

A woman nearby heard the victim's screams and saw the robber running, police said. The witness chased the man, who threw down the purse, police said. He then ran east on Route 40, police said.

Nothing was missing from the victim's purse, but the witness discovered a knife that the man apparently dropped, police said.
