American League -- Suspended Cleveland Indians OF Albert Belle for three games for charging Kansas City Royals pitcher Hipolito Picardo during a game May 13. Belle appealed the suspension by AL president Bobby Brown. A hearing will be held in New York on May 31.

Atlanta Braves -- Activated 1B Brian Hunter from the 15-day disabled list. Optioned 1B Ryan Klesko to Triple-A Richmond.

Cincinnati Reds -- Designated OF Cesar Hernandez for assignment. Recalled former Orioles OF/1B Keith Hughes from Triple-A from Indianapolis.

Florida Marlins -- Recalled P Matt Turner from Triple-A Edmonton. Released P Bob McClure. Purchased the contract of OF Geronimo Berroa from Edmonton. Optioned C Steve Decker to Edmonton.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Named Wendy Selig-Prieb vice president and general counsel.

Montreal Expos -- Recalled P Gil Heredia from Triple-A Ottawa. Optioned P Mike Gardiner to Ottawa.

Texas Rangers -- Activated P Dan Smith from the 15-day disabled list and assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Indiana Pacers -- Fired coach Bob Hill.

Colleges

Connecticut -- Signed Geno Auriemma, women's basketball coach, to a four-year contract.

Navy -- Elevated the women's soccer program to varsity status. Eliminated men's volleyball, men's and women's fencing and women's gymnastics. Demoted the pistol program to club status.

Tennessee -- Announced the resignation of Al Brown, men's assistant basketball coach.

Western Maryland -- Named Kathy Railey women's field hockey coach and John Kovach women's assistant field hockey coach.

NFL -- Announced the reinstatement of Pittsburgh RB Tim Worley from a one-year drug suspension.

Philadelphia Eagles -- Signed QB Dan Freiburger.

San Diego Chargers -- Signed OT Stan Brock.
