Several Carroll County firms interested in hiring seniors wil talk with job seekers and accept resumes at "Senior Power 1993," a job fair sponsored by Days Inn of Westminster.

The job fair will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the Days Inn at 25 S. Cranberry Road, Westminster.

"Businesses will be interviewing for positions that are available presently," said Thomas E. McPherson, general manager of the Westminster Days Inn. He said at least 15 jobs currently are available at the firms that will be represented at the job fair.

Also, Mr. McPherson said, representatives of the businesses will be happy to speak with seniors about the current job market.

"They do want seniors," he said of the local companies that will be at the fair, because older workers tend to have a conscientious work ethic and a friendly, courteous attitude.

"Fifty percent of my staff is seniors," Mr. McPherson said.

Businesses that will be represented at the job fair include the Carroll County Bank, Cranberry Mall, the Investment Center, the Carroll County Public Library, Union National Bank, McDonald's, Taco Bell, Roy Rogers, Leggett, Sears and Londontown.

In addition, he said, government agencies and nonprofit groups that work with seniors will be on hand to answer employment-related questions.

Mr. McPherson said the event will give seniors an opportunity to "get all your questions answered," in a "one-stop shop" format.

Scheduled to attend are representatives of the Social Security Administration, American Association of Retired Persons, Green Thumb, Job Training Partnership Act program, Carroll County Bureau of Aging and other programs, he said.

Members of the business education committee of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce will be available to offer assistance and show people around. Admission is free, and advance registration is not required.

The job fair is part of a nationwide program called Senior Power, sponsored by Days Inns of America Inc., of Parsippany, N.J. About 60 similar events are being held nationwide at Days Inns.

If the event is a success, Mr. McPherson said, "I'm going to . . . do another."
