Doxzon joins waste committee

The Carroll commissioners have added Union Bridge-area resident Debbie Doxzon to the county's Waste-to-Energy Committee to replace Woodbine farmer Harold E. Mercer.

Mr. Mercer left the committee because of his workload on the farm.

Mrs. Doxzon has been active in Residents for a Healthier Union Bridge Area, a citizens group formed several years ago to monitor emissions at the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. plant.

She said she has attended all Waste-to-Energy Committee meetings, except the first one. She said she had asked to be a committee member after reading about the group in the newspaper.

The commissioners appointed a 23-member committee in January to study whether the county should build an incinerator that would burn county trash and generate electricity.

The group is scheduled to finish its work in June 1994.

Mrs. Doxzon said she will bring research skills learned in her work with RHUBA to the committee.

She said she would like to see the county exhaust efforts to recycle and compost trash before burning it. Burning trash raises many health-related questions, she said.
