Boys' Latin wins 'B' opener Baseball

Catcher John "J" Armiger hit two home runs and had four RBI to lead Boys' Latin (11-2) past visiting Lutheran, 9-2, yesterday in the first game of the Maryland Scholastic Association B Conference championship series.

Myron Hayes pitched a complete game for the Lakers, striking out four.

Brian Devaney had two doubles for the Lakers and Phil Bokker had one. Curtis Miller hit a home run for Lutheran.

Lutheran (7-5) took a 2-0 lead in the first. Boys' Latin rallied for two in the bottom of the second to tie and added a run in the third to take the lead for good at 3-2.

The Lakers broke the game open in the fifth with two runs and added two in the sixth.

Game 2 of the three-game series will be played at 3:45 tomorrow at Lutheran. Game 3, if necessary, will be played Friday at Boys' Latin.

Lutheran is making a surprise appearance in the championship series after a 13-5 win over Towson Catholic in the first round and a 3-2 upset victory over defending champion Mount Carmel in the semifinals.
