An awards ceremony to honor Fort Meade as the most improved Army base in the continental United States will be held Thursday at the Pentagon.

An awards ceremony to honor Fort Meade as the most improved Army base in the continental United States will be held Thursday at the Pentagon.
Col. Kent D. Menser, the garrison commander, will receive a trophy from Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, Army chief of staff. Later this year, Fort Meade will receive a $125,000 prize, which has been earmarked for more base improvements.
The Department of the Army holds an Army Community of Excellence competition each year.
The ceremony will take place in the Pentagon Center Courtyard at 3 p.m.

* Gambrills: Thieves entered through a window of a home in the 100 block of Gambrills Road Sunday and stole a screw gun, drill, mixing paddle and
circular saw worth $511.
* Severn: After entering through the door of a warehouse in the 7900 block of Quarterfield Road between May 6 and Friday, thieves broke ceiling lights and tractor headlights and stole a $900 snow blower.
* Crofton: Robbers stole $100 in cash from a register at Minuteman Press Saturday in the 2100 block of Defense Highway.
