Rehrmann holds forth on countywide force

May 16, 1993

County Executive Eileen M. Rehrmann outlined Thursday o the administration's 30-day study of whether to create a countywide police force that would greatly reduce the authority of the sheriff.

As host Thursday night for the first of four open meetings on public safety issues, Mrs. Rehrmann addressed municipal representatives of Aberdeen, Bel Air and Havre de Grace and about 20 other persons, including several ranking members of Sheriff Robert E. Comes' staff.

The sheriff and Mrs. Rehrmann disagree on whether a countywide police force is necessary.

Community organization leaders and the public are invited to attend similar meetings with Mrs. Rehrmann and members of her study committee tomorrow at 7 p.m. or May 26 at 5:30 p.m.

Both will be held in the second floor conference room of the county administration building in Bel Air.

Public safety issues regarding fire and rescue communications will be addressed Thursday at 6 p.m. in the county executive's third-floor conference room.

Copies of the meeting agenda are available at 220 S. Main St.

Contact Kim Snee before each meeting at (410) 638-3350 to confirm times and sites.
