A combination of players from AIS champions Roland Park and Oldfields led the East to a 12-7 victory over the West in yesterday's Association of Independent Schools All-Star Girls Lacrosse Game at Garrison Forest.

Reds attackers Brent McCallister and Melissa Cully joined the Oldfields duo of Jody Cowan and Nicole Brahim in scoring the first four East goals and Roland Park center Peggy Boutilier controlled most of the early draws.

East coaches Wendy Kridel, of A Division champ Roland Park, and Beth Franks, of B Division champ Oldfields, decided at the field to put all of their players in the game at the same time.

While Oldfields point Alicia Garbutt provided some strong defense, the other five played as if they had been together all season.

"Basically, it's every man for himself out there," said Cully, "but you try to make the good passes and the good runs, and we all worked well together."

Cowan and McCallister scored in the first 90 seconds before the West had possession of the ball.

However, Jo Webster (Mount de Sales) scored the first of her game-high three goals to get the West on the board two minutes later. The East answered quickly as Brahim fed McCallister to pull ahead 3-1.

Melissa Reese (Seton Keough) cut the margin to one again, but Cully scored an unassisted goal for a 4-2 East lead with 14:58 left.

The East, which never trailed, finished off the half by outscoring the West 4-1 on goals from Rebecca Becker (Towson Catholic), Krystin Porcella (John Carroll), Rachel Mack (Notre Dame Prep) and Carole Fakhry (Bryn Mawr). The East outshot the West 17-7 in the half.

Robin Zimmerly (Glenelg Country School) added the other West goal, and West goalie Tricia Burdt (St. Paul's) had four of her eight saves in the half.
