A 22-year-old railroad buff who was taking photographs along the tracks near Gorsuch Road was knocked to the ground and raped about 11 a.m. Wednesday, state police said yesterday.

State police said the woman, who is not from Carroll County, had stopped her car near Tannery Road and was taking pictures near the railroad tracks when she was approached from behind and assaulted.

The woman told police her assailant was about 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, of medium build, with blond hair and a mustache.

Police said the woman drove to Carroll County General Hospital, where she was treated. Hospital officials notified police.

The woman, who had walked about a quarter-mile along the track from the nearest house, told police she was hoping a train would come by so she could take pictures of it.

An official of the Maryland Midland Railway Co., which uses those tracks, said trains between Westminster and Glyndon use them only in the late afternoon and evening.

State police request anyone with information on the attack to call 410-848-3111.
