The number of Americans filing first-time claims for jobless benefits was unchanged last week,at 346,000,the government reported yesterday.

The figure,which is adjusted for seasonal variations,has fallen by 10,000 during the week ended April 24.

In Maryland,new claims fell by 518,to 3,931,in the week ended April 24,but total claims were up by 185,to 50,585.Still,total jobless claims remained more than 12,000 lower than a year ago. State numbers are not seasonally adjusted.
