Simulator will show midshipmen hazards of drunken driving

Midshipmen at the Naval Academy will have a chance to learn about the dangers of drunken driving firsthand today by steering a sports car that simulates the experience of being under the influence of alcohol.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving is taking its campaign to prevent students from climbing behind the wheel after drinking to the academy.

A Dodge Daytona ES, which has a computer programmed to delay steering and braking response time to simulate the slowed responses under the influence of alcohol, will be in the Alumni Hall parking lot.

Students can experience the hazards of driving drunk when they try to negotiate figure eights.
