It was colorful, musical and exciting.

The Opening Day parade Saturday drew lots of Crofton residents into the sunshine to cheer the boys and girls participating in the baseball program. The Arundel High School Band kicked off the festivities and led the players along the parade route.

More than 800 youngsters have signed up to play. It's up to us to cheer them on.

But now that baseball is up and running, it's time to start to think of fall sports.

The first walk-in registration will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Crofton Elementary School on Duke of Kent Drive. Other sessions will be May 15 from noon to 3 p.m. and May 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost of soccer will be $30 and football will be $45.

Early registration helps organizers determine the number of teams that will participate and how many uniforms to order. Being prompt also ensures that your child will be on a team.

If you want information on the soccer program, call 261-0196; for football, call 721-7122.

County soccer tryouts will start in late May or early June so keep an eye on this column for times and days.

* Application forms for the Mark Mettrick/Tim Wittman Professional Soccer Camp, scheduled for July 19 to 23, will be available at the registration sessions, the Crofton Library or by calling 261-0196.
