Tricia Slater

School: Glenelg High School

Hometown: Ellicott City

Age: 18

Her accomplishments: Tricia has been involved with class government for several years. She's senior class president and has served as junior class president, as well as freshman and sophomore class vice-president.

She also serves as a peer mediator and features page editor for the school newspaper. Last year, she was activities page editor for the school yearbook.

She plays varsity lacrosse and field hockey and runs indoor track.

Outside of school, she's involved in the "Special Friend" program at Grassroots, where she volunteers her time to work with homeless children. Last year, she was one of two students picked by Glenelg to participate in a five-week volunteer program at the National Aquarium in Baltimore.

Her comments: Sports have helped me develop skills, like working with other team members or working with a group to get things done. High school is the time to do lots of activities and to find out what you're good with and what you think are important.

Her goals: She plans to attend Catonsville Community College next year. "I just want to work with people," she said. "I maybe would like to be an occupational therapist."
