Sunday's Montpelier Spring Festival will offer fun for all ages

Ben & Jerry's Traveling Circus Show Bus will be one of the many attractions for children of all ages at the 23rd annual Montpelier Spring Festival from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday at Montpelier Mansion in Laurel.

Sponsored by the Vermont ice cream company, the Ben & Jerry's show bus will present performances at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

A "Children's Corner" will feature free pony rides, balloons and face painting. This area will also have a petting farm and animal characters, including Phineas Frog and Smokey Bear.

At 2 p.m., the Show Palace State in the Children's Center will present 9-year-old actor Roger Myers, a Laurel resident who has appeared on TV in "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" and "The Jacksons: An American Dream."

For older children, the festival will offer dance shows, musical performances and exhibits by more than 90 artists and crafts persons. Art, ceramics, clothing, jewelry, pottery, needlepoint and outdoor wood furniture are some of the items they will be selling.

Festival foods will include Caribbean dishes, funnel cakes, snowballs, sausage subs, barbecue pork, gyros and deep-fried vegetables.

Montpelier Mansion is at 9401 Montpelier Drive, off Laurel-Bowie Road (Route 197). Festival goers are urged to ride free shuttle buses, which will run from 11:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Buses will run from Towne Centre shopping center at Route 197 and Contee Road, Montpelier Plaza at Route 197 and Muirkirk Road and James Harrison Elementary School on Larchdale Road.
