Man, 41, killed in auto wreck

A 41-year-old Oakland Mills man died Monday afternoon after his car went through a red light and broadsided a Nissan Maxima on a rain-slicked road in Owen Brown, county police said.

Charon Felder of the 9600 block of White Acre Road was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m. after being taken by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital, a hospital spokesman said.

Mr. Felder was injured about 3:20 p.m. while driving his 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass north on Route 175, police said. Police said he ran a red light at the intersection of Route 175 and Snowden River Parkway, hitting the 1990 Nissan, whose driver was trying to turn left on Route 175 from Snowden River Parkway.

The driver of the Nissan, Robert Ashby Hilker, 30, of the 8800 block of Blade Green Lane in Long Reach, was taken by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital, but he wasn't admitted, the hospital spokesman said.

Mr. Felder wasn't wearing a seat belt, police said. An investigation continues.
