Murder charge is lodged in Pioneer City shooting

An 18-year-old Severn man was charged Friday with murder in the fatal shooting of a man on a playground in Pioneer City earlier this month, county police said yesterday.

Paul Eugene "Bone" Turner Jr., 18, of the 8600 block of Pioneer Drive was charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators said he was an accomplice in the April 7 slaying of Robert Lee Hall Jr., 21, of the 1800 block of Ritchiefield Drive in Severn.

According to police, Mr. Turner gave Raymond Russell "Butchie" Summerville, 20, the revolver he allegedly used to shoot Mr. Hall.

Mr. Turner was being held yesterday in the county detention center.

Army luncheon to mark start of partnership

The Army's Baltimore Recruiting Battalion is planning a luncheon tomorrow at the Fort Meade Officers' Club to mark the beginning of a partnership with state education officials and the local business community.

The coalition is part of the Army's 2000 community services program, which is aimed at helping local schools by providing mentors, substitute teachers, pre-Scholastic Aptitude Test assessments and help for students with homework and class projects.

After the luncheon, high school students who have enlisted through the Army's delayed entry program, their parents and guests are to tour Tipton Army Air Field on the base where Black Hawk, Huey and Cobra helicopters will be on display.
