Civic groups and merchants are hoping for a clean sweep May 15 in Odenton.

That's the day volunteers will swarm over the area to clean up winter debris and plant flowers.

Volunteers will plant barrels of flowers and place them in front of North Odenton businesses as part of a beautification project sponsored by the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce.

Business owners have purchased the barrels and will maintain them. A variety of flowers will line the route. Flowers also will be planted at the intersection of Piney Orchard Parkway and Route 175. The event is set for 9 a.m. to noon, May 15.

The second event, sponsored by the West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Odenton Improvement Association,is the annual cleanup of Route 175.

Volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. in the Odenton Shopping Center parking lot. Trash bags will be provided. Those who want to plant flowers should meet at 9 a.m. in the NCO parking lot off Llewellyn Avenue at Fort Meade. Volunteers should bring gloves for both the cleanup and the flower planting.
