WMC's Spring Fling celebrates season SOUTHEAST -- Sykesville * Eldersburg * Gamber

Spring Fling Weekend, Western Maryland College's annual outdoor party celebrating the return of fair weather, will be held on campus for three days beginning Thursday.

Comedy, music, food and other entertainment for all ages will be available. This year's highlights include Carrot Top, a nationally known stand-up comedian, and more than 20 booths and games sponsored by student organizations.

All events are free unless otherwise indicated.

On April 29, Carrot Top, a veteran comedian who carries his routine in six overflowing travel trunks, will appear in the Decker College Center Forum at 8 p.m. Baltimore-Washington area singer-songwriter Karen Goldberg will be the opening act.

Carrot Top's humor is adult-oriented.

Tickets are $3 in advance, $5 at the door. Beverages will be available. Valid identification is required.

On April 30, Brengle's Jingles Karaoke will appear in the Decker College Center Pub beginning at 6 p.m. Beverages will be available. A valid ID is required.

On May 1, all events will be on the quadrangle north of the Hoover Library. In the event of rain, Spring Fling will move to the lower level of Decker College Center.

Three bands -- Seize the Day, Risse and the Four Zoas -- will appear beginning at 1 p.m. Risse, a dance and rhythm and blues group, also will perform in the Decker Forum beginning at 9 p.m. in a dance party co-sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Inter-Greek Council.

From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., a caricaturist, a Moon Bounce ride and a Gyro ride will be available, and more than two dozen student groups will sponsor fund-raising booths, food and games. Dinner will be served in the quad from 4:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for $6.50.
