George Buch 18, of Pasadena

School: Northeast High School

Accomplishments/Interests: George's hard work and determination has paid off, as he recently was accepted by the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.

George received both a congressional and presidential recommendation to the academy.

Maintaining a 3.68 grade point average was just one of the factors contributing to this achievement. He is vice president of the National Honor Society and a member of the school's math, varsity cross country and varsity indoor and outdoor track teams.

Before he was accepted by the academy, George had decided to study aerospace engineering and become a pilot, making the Air Force a career.

Outside school, George has managed to receive a first degree black belt in tae kwon do and is an instructor at a local karate school.

Comments: "I have always set goals for myself in life, and the one aspect that has always helped me to achieve those goals was my self-determination. If a person has a lot of self-determination, then they can do anything in life."
