High schoolers sought for pre-college program

Capitol College in Laurel is seeking 10 high school students to participate in a "Pre-college Engineering Program" which is fully funded by a grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from June 30 through Aug. 8.

Students chosen for the program will study math, English, electronics and computer science while living on campus during the week. The NASA grant covers all expenses and includes a $40 weekly stipend.

Participants will be selected on the basis of grades, SAT scores and personal interviews. Those who complete the program and enroll in the electrical engineering program at Capitol College will be awarded a renewable $1,000 scholarship.

*Jessup: 8300 block of Bristol Court: Someone stole a $30 CB radio from a vehicle between 5 p.m. April 16 and 8 a.m. Tuesday.

*North Laurel: 9200 block of Gold Dust Court: A 1987 Chevrolet Blazer was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday. It was later recovered on Sylvan Still Wednesday night.

9200 block of Gold Dust Court: A 48-year-old woman was approached by a man as she got out of her car. The man demanded her purse and she complied. The man told the woman she was beautiful, and patted her on the cheek before he walked away, police said. The robber is described as a white male between 30- and 35-years-old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 165 pounds. He has blond hair.

9100 block of Bourbon Street: Someone smashed a passenger side window on a Dodge Daytona between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 6:40 a.m. Wednesday.
