British filly Bezelle wins first U.S. race

April 25, 1993|By From Staff Reports

Bezelle, a 4 year-old filly from Great Britain, won her first race in the United States yesterday.

Bezelle won the seventh race at Pimlico, the $35,000 Searching Stakes over 1 mile on turf, by 1 3/4 lengths over Gaylord's Annie.

Bezelle passed Lip Sing and Dior's Angel in the stretch and went on to the victory in the race for fillies and mares, 3 years old and up.

Jane Lunger of Wilmington, Del., who has owned several filly and mare winners at Delaware Park, purchased Bezelle last winter.

Lunger will bring Bezelle, the first foreign horse she has owned, back to Pimlico to run in the $100,000 Gallorette Handicap May 13, which will also be run on turf over 1 1/16 miles.
