Robert A. Stockbridge, contract administrator

Robert A. Stockbridge, a retired contract administrator for the Environmental Elements Corp. who was active in church and outdoor activities, died Wednesday at Greater Baltimore Medical Center.

The 73-year-old Stoneleigh resident retired in 1983 after 10 years with the Koppers Co. subsidiary. Earlier, he had worked for 16 years for the Westinghouse Electric Corp.

The Baltimore native was an All-Maryland lacrosse and basketball player at the Boys' Latin School and an All-America lacrosse player at the University of Maryland. He graduated from UM in 1944 after serving as president of the College Park chapter of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. He also attended Washington College.

He had been a member of the Brown Memorial Park Avenue Presbyterian Church and later of the Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and was organizer in 1986 of a collection of automobiles for flood victims in West Virginia. He also was scoutmaster and member of the troop committee for Boy Scout Troop 729.

He had been a Scout in his youth in Troop 57 at the Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he became an Eagle Scout and later served as scoutmaster.

Long a member of the Mountain Club of Maryland, he was al so active with the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club.

A memorial service was to be conducted at 4 p.m. today at the Brown Memorial Woodbrook Presbyterian Church at 6200 N. Charles St.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Miriam Buchaca; four sons, Robert Allen Stockbridge Jr. of Woodstock, Vt., Edward Trump Stockbridge of Houston, Henry Lee Stockbridge of Olympia, Wash., and Kenneth Chambers Stockbridge of Columbia; two brothers, Henry Patten Stockbridge of Charlotte, N.C., and John Montague Stockbridge Chillicothe, Ohio; and two grandsons.
