30-gallon gas spill at station cleaned

About 30 gallons of gasoline were spilled at a service station on Railroad Avenue when a fitting broke on a truck filling the underground tanks about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The spill was cleaned up by workers from Carroll County and the Maryland Department of the Environment, and volunteers from the Westminster and Reese fire companies.

A Department of the Environment official said the driver of the tanker was standing by the fitting and was able to hit a shut-off valve and stop the spill quickly.

The fire department used an absorbent to clean up the gasoline, officials said.
