Science center site selected at town pond

A site has been tentatively selected for a student science center at the Manchester town pond on Water Street, Councilwoman Charlotte Collett said Thursday.

She said the center would be located on a flat spot on a knoll overlooking the pond. School children would be allowed to use the site to study the pond.

By May, she said, the town would lay a gravel surface and install benches and tables donated by the PTA. Ms. Collett said she hopes that by next fall, she will have money from Project Open Space to construct a building at the site, as well as a walkway and parking area to make the center accessible for people with disabilities.

She said the town may also install portable toilets at the center.
