Darren Hall, South River's all-time leading scorer and rebounder, has signed a letter of intent and accepted a full basketball scholarship to Division I Liberty of the Big South Conference.

Hall (6 feet 7) played center for the Seahawks (15-8 and a Class 3A Region IV semifinalist), but he likely will play forward in college. He plans to major in sports management.

"I visited the school three weekends ago and really liked it," said Hall. "They have seven seniors returning, so after that, I should get a chance to play at least by my sophomore year if not before."

Hall was named to the All-Anne Arundel County boys basketball first team and was on the The Baltimore Sun's All-Metro second team.

In four varsity seasons at South River, Hall rewrote the Seahawks' record book.

"Darren owns practically all of our offensive records, and the Liberty coach [Jeff Meyers] really likes his offensive ability," said South River coach Ken Dunn.

Hall's most impressive records are total points (1,456) and rebounds (766). Hall averaged 23.8 points (16.7 over four years) and 12.0 rebounds this season.

L Hall scored 31 points or more four times in his senior year.

His season high was 38 against Queen Anne's, and he scored 34 to go with 15 rebounds in leading the Hawks to their first win over Annapolis, 86-84 in overtime.
