Ferguson is nominated, but won't run for council

Charles H. "Tim" Ferguson will not run for a Sykesville council seat.

The two-term council member, who was defeated in a re-election bid in 1991, said Tuesday he was "not interested" in serving on the council again.

Mr. Ferguson, who did not attend Monday's nominating session at the Town House, said he was surprised to learn that his former council colleague, Charles Mullins, had nominated him.

Sykesville's charter does not require candidates for municipal office to be present for nominations. That will change when the new charter takes effect after the May 4 election.

Since his nomination was made and seconded, Mr. Ferguson's name will appear on the ballot along with Garth Adams and incumbents Julie Kaus and Eugene Johnson. Voters will choose three council members.
