Gouge attends Clinton breakfast on summer jobs

April 15, 1993

Carroll Commissioner Julia W. Gouge was one of three elected officials from Maryland who attended a breakfast in Washington yesterday with President Clinton to discuss summer jobs for youths.

The meeting was sponsored by the National Alliance of Business. Mrs. Gouge was invited because she is a member of the National Association of Counties' Steering Committee for Employment.

The group discussed the president's Summer Challenge program, a part of his economic stimulus package. U.S. Labor Secretary Robert B. Reich and Education Secretary Richard W. Riley also attended.

Mrs. Gouge also attended a reception sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday.

About 260 youths participate each year in Carroll's summer program, which is coordinated by the county's job-training office.
