Shultz interim at Northeast

April 14, 1993|By Roch Eric Kubatko

Northeast athletic director Roger Stitt said last night that Marianne Shultz will serve as acting head softball coach until a final decision is made by the Board of Education on the status of Ron Price.

Northeast plays at Glen Burnie today.

Price was arrested Thursday and charged with sexually abusing a 16-year-old female student. He had been named coach earlier this year after Lynn Pitonzo resigned.

Shultz is the Eagles' junior varsity coach and varsity assistant.

"The board still hasn't decided whether Ron can remain as coach," Shultz said last night. "He still holds the position. The school can't take that away from him. The board has to give him the innocent-until-proven-guilty thing.

"The JV and varsity run similar practices anyway, so I don't believe this will be a big change for the team. I'm just telling the kids to concentrate on softball."

This will be Northeast's first game since Price's arrest. The team practiced for the first time yesterday under the supervision of Shultz and assistant Earl Dundorf.
