Weapons charges filed against Silver Spring man

A Silver Spring man was arrested Monday evening after he allegedly stole a ride ticket at a Crofton go-cart track and then threatened a man with a knife.

Juan A. Ortiz of Milwaukee, who was visiting the Crofton Go-Kart Raceway on Route 3 about 6:30 p.m., said the suspect stole a ticket from his son and then took a lap around the track.

Once the man had finished his ride, he and Mr. Ortiz got into an argument that escalated when the man allegedly took out a folding knife from his right side pocket.

Mr. Ortiz said he walked away, called police and told officers that the suspect threw the knife in a field. Police said in a report that they recovered the blade and arrested the man.

James Andrew Rush, 19, of the 1500 block of November Circle in Silver Spring was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, carrying a deadly weapon with the intent to cause injury and theft.
