Community group votes against zoning for shop

The Greater Severna Park Council has voted to oppose a zoning reclassification necessary for a Ritchie Highway auto repair shop to remain in business.

Joseph, Elaine and Philip Langlois own property on the east side of Ritchie Highway, across from Bush's Garden Center.

They want a reclassification from R-2 to C-4, which would enable them to continue to operate the auto shop on the site. The shop has been there for 10 years.

The council has voted to oppose the reclassification.

Albert Johnston, legislation committee chairman, plans to represent the council at the hearing on April 29.

"By and large we have taken a rather consistent position that zoning changes will be done during comprehensive rezoning only," Mr. Johnston said.
