After her team routed Joppatowne Thursday in the first round of the Arundel High Spring tournament, Arundel High first-year girls lacrosse coach Christine Fellona said the Wildcats would end Mount de Sales' eight-game winning streak in yesterday's championship game.

But Arundel (1-4) will have to wait until another day to ride its wave of momentum against the Sailors (8-0). The game was postponed because of rain and poor field conditions.

Referees halted play 4:24 into the game after a heavy downpour began, with Mount de Sales leading 1-0 on a goal from midfielder Lisa Banbury.

The game was called 45 minutes later. Officials considered playing in Arundel's stadium, where the boys lacrosse tournament final had just been completed, but field conditions at the stadium were also poor. No makeup date has been set.

"It wasn't going to stop raining," Fellona said. "We wanted to have a better day and keep people healthy."

In the consolation game, Atholton (1-3) beat Joppatowne (1-3), 15-7, as Allison Valentino and Lara Dustin each scored five goals.

After a 4-4 tie at halftime, the Raiders, who lost to Mount de Sales, 9-8, in the first round, scored seven goals within the first seven minutes of the second half to put the game out of reach.

In Thursday's semifinals, Julie Benoit, Heather Sinclair and Lesley Knowles scored three goals each to lead Arundel over Joppatowne, 15-3, and Mount de Sales edged Atholton, 9-8.
