There's nothing like a scare to wake a sleeping giant.

No. 2 Roland Park survived a close call Tuesday and took it out on No. 13 Bryn Mawr yesterday.

After coming from behind to slip past unranked but up-and-coming Garrison Forest, 12-11, the Reds regrouped to beat Bryn Mawr, 11-4, in an Association of Independent Schools East Division game at Roland Park.

Defense was the difference for the Reds, who improved to 4-0 overall.

"Any time you can hold a good team to four goals, that's saying something," Reds coach Wendy Kridel said. "We struggled defensivelyTuesday. They were running right at us, and we weren't working the double team well. Now we're more comfortable with it, and we played outstanding defensively [yesterday]."

Strong play from defenders Brady Beale, Meredith Shuey, Susanna Pitts, Megahn Hallahan and Whitney Fenwick, as well as keeper Kim Shuey, held the Mawrtians scoreless through the first 14 minutes.

Seven players scored for the Reds: Brent McCallister had three goals, Millisa Cully and Lizzie Bennett had two each, and Peggy Boutilier, Hallahan, Catherine Passano and Ridgley Bennett had one each.
