Despite having only four experienced wrestlers, the Raiders junior wrestling team finished fourth at last month's Anne Arundel County championships.

Coached by Carl Cichetti Jr., Frank Linton, Herman Shreve, Bob Byrd and Chip Brown, the first-year team placed at least one of its wrestlers in each of the tournaments it competed in this season.

Carl Cichetti III was one of the Raiders' most experienced wrestlers, and it showed. Wrestling in the 95-pound class, Cichetti won six tournament crowns and posted a 43-4 record with 21 pins.

Jonathan Davis (65) took first at the Maryland State Wrestling Association district qualifier, second at the MSWA regional championships, was runner-up at the Aberdeen Invitational and finished third at the Kent County Tournament.

Representing the Raiders in the 70-pound class was Spike Stinchcomb. After winning the tournament in Laurel, Del., Stinchcomb took second at the Kent County and Steven J. Welsch tournaments.

Robert Marsh (132) was runner-up at the county tournament, the Steven J. Welsh Tournament and the Raiders Invitational.

Junior gymnastics

Barlow's Gymnastics boys teams recently competed in the 1993 Maryland State Championship at the Fairland Athletic Complex in Laurel.

Barlow's earned a second-place award for Class VI Open, a second-place for Class V All Levels and third-place in Class IV All Levels.

Barlow's also qualified six gymnasts for the regional championships on April 24 and 25 in West Point, N.Y. Qualifying were:Justin Garrett of Severna Park, Michael Williams of Davidsonville, Aaron Fullerton of Millersville, and Buc Kern, Eric Peterson and Jeff Bernia of Annapolis.

Competing in Class VI for Barlow's were Justin and Travis Garrett of Severna Park, Sammy Miller of Severna Park, Jeremy Tate of Millersville, Michael Williams of Davidsonville and Adam Garrett of Crofton.

Barlow's Optional girls competed in a United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs meet last weekend at Featherstone Gymnastics Center in Woodbridge, Va.

Competing in the Open Optional for Barlow's were Dawn Lenfest of Severna Park, Kirsty Fulton of Mitchellville, Karen Newhard of Crofton and Lori Bernia of Annapolis.

Youth soccer

The Pasadena Sparks downed Good Counsel, 8-2, last week in an under-10 boys Baltimore-area indoor soccer league game.

Eddie Dolch led Pasadena with three goals and two assists.

Youth basketball

The combined Severna Park Hornets 8-10 boys basketball team won four games in two tournaments this past weekend, improving their overall record to 54-4.

The Hornets B team won the Arbutus "B" Tournament by downing the Glen Burnie Rebels, 35-18.

On March 31, the Green Hornets A and B teams joined forces to defeat Catonsville, 47-15, in the third round of the Crofton Tournament.

Jarrod Ross posted a team-high 12 points.

In the A Division of the Arbutus Tournament, the Hornets took their 11th straight championship, beating the Columbia Jaguars, 39-22.

* 12-and-under boys -- The Pistons of coach Larry Robey, won the Lake Shore League championship Tuesday night by beating the Hornets, 43-32.

The Pistons' Joey Anarino scored a game-high 29 points.
