Two men rob restaurant

Two men, one armed with a handgun, held up a Wendy's restaurant in Oakland Mills Monday night.

The men escaped with an undetermined amount of cash, Howard County police said. The assistant manager and five employees present were not injured.

Police said the robbery began about 9:15 p.m. after the two men entered the restaurant, in the 9100 block of Route 108. One man jumped over the counter and produced a small-caliber handgun. The men told the employees to sit on the floor while the gunman ordered the assistant manager to give him cash.

A police spokesman said he was unsure whether there were customers in the restaurant.

The robbers fled in a small, silver, four-dour compact car, police said.

Andrea Romich named All-Academic

Andrea Romich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Romich of Columbia, completed her second year on the Western Maryland College women's basketball team by doubling her scoring and rebounding averages and earning a spot on the Middle Atlantic Conference All-Academic Team.

To become an All-Academic selection, players must maintain a 3.4 grade point average and be at least a sophomore in school.

A sophomore math major, Ms. Romich was Western Maryland's third leading rebounder, averaging 6.3 a game, up from 2.5 as a freshman. She increased her scoring from 2.9 to 7.6 points per games, fourth on the team.

Ms. Romich is a graduate of Oakland Mills High School, where she earned second team All-County honors in 1991 by averaging 10.8 points, 9.5 points, 4.8 steals and two assists per game. That year her team finished with a 23-3 record and was runner-up in the class 3A tournament.
