Library enhances collection on health

The Anne Arundel County library system has upgraded and expanded its collection of materials on health-related subjects at the North County Branch, at 1010 Eastway and Ritchie Highway.

The branch now offers the county's most comprehensive health collection.

In addition to a variety of reference resources and books, the health collection includes Health Index Plus, a computerized index to magazines, periodicals and videocassettes that provides information on health and fitness issues.

The addition to the health collection was funded in part by a $5,000 grant from the county's Health Department and a $3,000 grant from the Division of Library Development and Services of the Maryland State Department of Education.

Portions of the grant money were also used used to enlarge the business collection at the Annapolis Branch.

Man charged in attempt to break into shed

A Glen Burnie man was charged Sunday with trying to break into a storage shed behind a department store.

A police officer on routine patrol said he saw a man trying to pry open a door to the shed with a tire iron. The man hid behind another bin but was quickly caught.

Police said they found various burglary tools, including a hand saw, a flashlight, a can of mace and a pellet gun.

Pierce Lee Gillenwater Jr., 19, of the 100 block of Gerard Drive, was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony.
