. . .. .. .. .. ..Rangers update

The Rangers feature a revamped look under first-year manager Kevin Kennedy. They added veteran left-handers Lefferts and Leibrandt to bolster their starting rotation, right-hander Tom Henke to anchor the bullpen and ex-Orioles second baseman Bill Ripken to strengthen the infield. Kevin Brown, who was scheduled to pitch the opener, instead opens the season on the disabled list, as does shortstop Manuel Lee and seven others. Jose Canseco begins his first full year with the Rangers and is surrounded by a solid lineup that features Juan Gonzalez, Rafael Palmeiro, Dean Palmer and Julio Franco.

.. .. .. .. ...Orioles update

The Orioles come out of spring training as healthy as they've been in a long time. The pitching rotation appears solid, with Sutcliffe, Mussina, Ben McDonald and Arthur Rhodes getting most of the starts in the first month. Chito Martinez, Luis Mercedes and Sherman Obando will divide time in right field, but the rest of the lineup is set. Designated hitter Harold Baines provides the left-handed bat missing from the middle of the lineup a year ago. Brady Anderson and Mike Devereaux are the keys at the top of the lineup, and catcher Chris Hoiles and third baseman Leo Gomez are expected to provide power at the bottom.
