N. County 2nd in Westminster meet

Topper Ellis and John Martin paced North County to a second-place finish at yesterday's Westminster Invitational.

Martin won the 100-meter -- in 11.9 seconds and took second in the 200 in 23.7, three-tenths of a second behind teammate Ellis, the event's winner. Ellis also won the 400 in 52.4.

Ellis and Martin ran on the victorious 400-meter relay team. North County won that event in 46.5, edging Westminster (46.7).

North County finished with 102 points, far behind Westminster's 180.

North County's girls team tied North Carroll for fourth with 53 points. Kenda Johnson took the 200 in 27.1 for the Knights, and Tamiko Mack won the 400 in 1:02.9. The two also ran on the winning 1,600 relay (4:27.9).
