Boston Red Sox -- Traded P Daryl Irvine to the Pittsburgh Pirates for IF Jeff Richardson.

California Angels -- Placed P Mike Butcher on the emergency 60-day disabled list.

Chicago Cubs -- Purchased the contract of IF Eric Yelding from Triple-A Iowa. Optioned OF Kevin Roberson to Iowa.

Cincinnati Reds -- Purchased the contract of 1B Tim Costo from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Cleveland Indians -- Sent OF Wayne Kirby and IF Jeff Schaefer (Maryland) to Triple-A Charlotte.

Florida Marlins -- Optioned P Mike Myers to Triple-A Edmonton. Acquired P Tom McGraw from the Milwaukee Brerwers for P Jamie McAndrew. Acquired P Jarod Juelsgaard from the San Francisco Giants.

Kansas City Royals -- Optioned SS David Howard and C Russ McGinnis to Triple-A Omaha. Released IF Randy Ready. Placed former Orioles P Mike Boddicker on the 15-day DL.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Outrighted IF Eddie Pye to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Montreal Expos -- Sent C Raul Santana outright to Single-A West Palm Beach.

New York Yankees -- Placed P Mike Witt on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Sunday.

San Diego Padres -- Sent C Brian Johnson outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Portland Trail Blazers -- ActivatedC Kevin Duckworth from the injured list. Placed reserve F Joe Wolf on the list with an upperrespiratory infection.

Washington Bullets -- Signed C Mark Acres.

NCAA -- Lifted probations on Kermit Davis Jr., former men's basketball coach at Texas A&M, and Fletcher Cockrell, former assistant men's basketball coach at Texas A&M, allowing them to seek Division I jobs.

Arkansas -- Announced the resignation of women's basketball coach John Sutherland.

Brigham Young -- Announced that C Shawn Bradley will forgo his college eligibility and enter the NBA draft.
