Gophers coaches swap soccer jobs

April 01, 1993|By Roch Eric Kubatko

Glen Burnie's boys and girls soccer programs will have a different look next season. But the faces will be awfully familiar to the Gophers.

Boys soccer coach Jon Van Orden will take over the girls program next fall, changing places with girls coach Ed Leibe, said athletic director Terry Bogle.

"The coaches requested this change about two months ago," Bogle said. "At that time, we opened the positions, but nobody applied within the 40 days, so we made the change."

Leibe is a former soccer player at the University of Maryland.

"It's been his ambition to coach the boys here," Bogle said.

Van Orden "felt like it was time for a change, and we honored that request," Bogle added.
