BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. VA — Md. escapee robs 2 men in W. Va.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W. VA. -- Randy Eugene McBee, the 38-year-old Maryland convict who escaped from an Eastern Shore pre-release center near Centreville March 23 surfaced in Berkeley Springs last night when he robbed two men and escaped in their car.

West Virginia authorities said McBee, who was serving a 5-year-term for burglary at Church Hill, surprised two men outside their home on Sir John's Run a mile outside Berkeley Springs at 3 p.m. yesterday and forced them into the house at gunpoint.

After tying the men, McBee took a shower, laundered his clothing and then untied one of the men who made him a meal.

He bound the man again and spent the next several hours watching TV and talking to the men before robbing them of money and a black 1989 Ford Escort with West Virginia tags 5TD343.

In his haste, McBee left his Maryland Dept. of Corrections ID card behind. The men freed themselves and called police, who set up roadblocks but failed to capture the fugitive.
