Westminster student allegedly has knife

A 14-year-old Westminster High School student was charged with carrying a concealed weapon on public school property after police allegedly found a knife with a four-inch blade in his backpack.

The student will be tried in juvenile court and was released in the custody of his parents, police said.

State police were called to the school at 9:29 a.m. Friday when a JTC faculty member notified administrators of the knife in the students possession.


* Westminster: Property valued at $250 was stolen from the car ofCraig Cooke of Manchester while it was parked at Cranberry Mall on Saturday.

Someone stole a jacket valued at $130 from the Longwell Armory on Saturday. Michelle Mathews of Westminster told police the jacket was missing when she prepared to leave the recreation center.

An unknown person broke a window of a car parked at the Englar Business Park on Friday. Laurie Keegan of Westminster told police the damage was about $100.


* Westminster: Westminster and Reese responded to a fire alarm at an office building on Malcolm Drive at 12:06 p.m. Monday. Units were out for 30 minutes.

Engines from the Westminster, Reese, Pleasant Valley and Manchester fire companies were dispatched for an apartment fire on Carroll View at 10:49 p.m. Sunday. Units were out for 15 minutes.
