Car crash kills woman in south part of county

A 20-year-old Calvert County woman was killed yesterday afternoon when her car crashed into a tree after sliding down an embankment in Pindell, Anne Arundel County police said.

Carrie Rene Harbaugh of the 300 block of Sun Park Lane in Huntingtown was pronounced dead at Prince George's Hospital Center shortly after the 4 p.m. accident.

Police said Ms. Harbaugh was driving southbound on Southern Maryland Boulevard near Upper Pindell Road, in the southern end of the county, when she lost control of her 1991 Ford Escort and went down the embankment.

The car struck a street sign and the driver's side of the vehicle hit the tree, police said.
